PAUL E. ROBINSON, a native of Toronto, Canada, is the author of the critically acclaimed series, “The Art of the Conductor,” featuring such greats as Sir Georg Solti, Herbert von Karajan, Leopold Stokowski, and Leonard Bernstein, and a regular contributor to “La Scena Musicale,” Canada’s “most respected classical music, opera, jazz and world music magazine.”. Paul has been on the faculty of the University of Hong Kong and SUNY (State University of new York) Fredonia and has appeared as a guest lecturer throughout the U.S.A., Canada, and China.
During his tenure in Hong Kong, Paul founded and acted as principal conductor of the Victoria Chamber Symphony. Upon returning to Canada, he took the position of music director of CJRT-FM Radio (Toronto), where he founded and acted as principal conductor of the CJRT Radio Orchestra for over 15 years. When CJRT abandoned classical music programming in 1989, Paul founded the Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he was principal conductor.
Maestro Robinson has appeared as guest conductor with orchestras in Canada, the United States, Europe and South America and has made several recordings for RCA Victor and Naxos. As music director of CJRT-FM, Canada’s foremost educational radio station, Paul introduced thousands of listeners to the wonders of classical music. It was at CJRT in Toronto that “Records in Review” – Paul’s ‘cartalk’ of classical music radio – was launched. Witty, wise, colorful and largely unscripted, it quickly became one of the city’s most popular listening destinations.
Paul will be your guide and expert lecturer on our MAESTRO Classical Music Cruises, classic small-group holidays with no fewer/no more than 10 people traveling together, staying in the same hotel or hotels, enjoying concerts, art galleries, fine dining, and whenever possible, ‘meet and greets’ with musicians, conductors, and/or soloists featured on the tour.
