Your kitchen and bathroom are two of the most important rooms in your house. Not only do you use them more than other rooms, they also are two of the rooms that are most important if you decide to sell your home. Doing remodeling projects on either or both of these rooms can help boost your home’s value, but you actually will get more for your money if you do a smaller remodel project. Here are some small kitchen and bath remodeling projects that can be well worth the money you spend on them.
Replace fixtures
You would be surprised at how much of a change you can make to a room just by changing the fixtures. The cheapest and easiest change you can make is to swap out the pulls and handles on your drawers and cabinets. By replacing those, you can change colors and styles and give your kitchen or bath a new look. This is the kind of work you can do yourself. Another fixture change you can make is to change your light fixtures. Depending on how extensive a change you want, you may be able to do this work yourself or you may need to hire an electrician to do it. A third type of fixture change you can make is to your sink and shower fixtures. Such a change can make a huge difference in the look of your kitchen or bath, but it will cost you a little more money and also will take more time.
Refinish or reface cabinets
Replacing kitchen cabinets or even bathroom cabinets if you have a large set is very pricey, easily costing several thousand dollars. If your cabinets have good “bones” and just need to be refreshed, you can have them refinished or refaced. Doing that can make your cabinets look brand new while costing you just a fraction of what you would spend for a new set of cabinets.
Get a bath insert
Tearing out your shower or tub to replace it is a time-consuming and expensive job. However, if your shower or bath is made out of acrylic, you can make it look just like new by having it replaced with an insert. An insert fits over your existing tub and shower and essentially gives you a brand new space. Most inserts cost less than $1,000, including the labor needed to install them.
Replace appliances
If the only issue with your kitchen is that your appliances are old and out of date, you can easily replace them for a few thousand dollars. Not only will it improve the look of your kitchen, but new appliances will be more energy efficient, saving you money on your utility and water costs.
